Do you mean this outcome is the only one possible for the future in the US? In the 1st World? In the Anglosphere - the US, Canada, Australia, New Zealand etc? What do you mean by "our"?

First, every nation that is entering a post-industrial age, where markets are extremely mature, consumption culture is becoming grating and seen as wasteful, and GGPs can only grow by a few percentage points a year max. Then every nation that enters the same stage. After that, Africa and Central Asia. It’s a very unevenly distributed process that the U.S., Canada, and Europe are bearing the brunt of now.
